UPS, AMF, ATS and Generator Load Testing - July 2019

09 July 2019, in Data Centre

As part of Web Wiz planned and preventative maintenance regime we will be carrying out load testing on the Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Automatic Mains Failure (AMF), Automatic Transfer Switching (ATS) and Neutral Gas Powered Generator Systems at our Data Centre.

During the test period, the UPS systems will take the full load of the Data Hall while the Generator comes online and the AMF moves the facility to Generator Power.

The Generator will take the full load of the facility for a 20 minute period, once the test is completed power to our facility will return to our usual mix of Solar, Battery, and Utility Power.

Automatic Transfer Switching (ATS) will move rack power from "A" to "B" Power Feeds before returning each Rack to "A" Power Feeds.

At Risk period:
Start Date: 17th July 2019

Times work will be carried out:
Start Time: 08:00
End Time: 08:20

Service Impact:
No impact to services is expected.

Reason:
This routine maintenance is essential to ensure that the UPS, Generator and Automatic Switching systems work as intended and are able to provide power to our Data Centre in the unlikely event of a Power Outage.

Network Upgrade to 10 Gbps Core - 28th May 2019

25 May 2019, in Network, Data Centre

We will be moving over to our new 10 Gbps Core Network on Tuesday 28th May 2019.

This is the second part  of a network upgrade, moving from our Cisco 1 Gbps Layer 2 network to a more advanced HPE Aruba Networks 10 Gbps Layer 3 network.

Start of work - At Risk period:
Start Date: 28th May 2019 Start Time: 04:00

End of work - At Risk period:
Risk End Date: 28th May 2019 Risk End Time: 7:00

Service Impact:
There maybe some packet loss not lasting more than a few minutes while the new network routes are activated and traffic reroutes across the new paths.

Reason:
Keeping with offering eco-friendly services to customers, our new network will be decreasing the number of switches we have by 50%, which will reduce power requirements while providing improved performance and security.

Installation of New Network Equipment

08 May 2019, in Network, Data Centre

We will be installing new network equipment in our Eco Data Centre during May in parallel with our existing network equipment.

This is the first part of a network upgrade, moving from our Cisco 1 Gbps Layer 2 network to a more advanced HPE Aruba Networks 10 Gbps Layer 3 network.

Start of work - At Risk period:
Start Date: 8th May 2019

End of work - At Risk period:
Risk End Date: 31st May 2019

Service Impact:
NONE - There will be no planned service impact, but due to Engineers working within the Data Centre, this notification comes with an 'at risk' warning.

Reason:
Keeping with offering eco-friendly services to customers, our new network will be decreasing the number of switches we have by 50%, which will reduce power requirements while providing improved performance and security.

UPS, ATS and Generator Load Testing - February 2019

04 February 2019, in Data Centre

As part of Web Wiz planned and preventative maintenance regime we will be carrying out load testing on the Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Automatic Transfer Switching (ATS) and Neutral Gas Powered Generator Systems at our Data Centre.

During the test period, the UPS systems will take the full load of the Data Hall while the Generator comes online and the ATS moves the facility from Mains Utility Power to Generator Power.

The Generator will take the full load of the facility for a 20 minute period, once the test is completed power to our facility will return to Mains Utility Power.

At Risk period:
Start Date: 6th February 2019

Times work will be carried out:
Start Time: 08:00
End Time: 08:20

Service Impact:
No impact to services is expected.

Reason:
This maintenance is essential to ensure that the UPS, Generator and Switching systems work as intended and are able to provide power to our Data Centre in the unlikely event of a Mains Utility Power Outage.

Install of new Automatic Transfer Switches

15 January 2019, in Data Centre

To help improve the resilience of our Bournemouth Data Centre we will be installing APC Automatic Transfer Switches into each of our racks in the Data Hall. This will add resilience to servers and network devices that can accept a single power feed.

Start of work - At Risk period:
Start Date: 17th January 2018

End of work - At Risk period:
Risk End Date: 18th January 2018

Service Impact:
There is no planned impact to your service, as the power to racks in the Data Hall should remain unaffected throughout. However, there will be reduced resilience while the work is being carried out, as the power will be switched to raw mains bypassing the UPS systems. Consequently, this notification comes with an 'at risk' warning.

Reason:
Adding Automatic Transfer Switches will allow servers and network devices that can accept only a single power feed to have improved resilience as the Automatic Transfer Switches will allow power to the rack equipment to automatically switch between A and B Power Feeds without interruption if a fault is detected. Each A and B Power Feed uses a different phase power supply and APC Double-Conversion On-line UPS system.
